About Design Original Art

DOA provides a wide range of stunning and affordable art to meet everyone’s taste and budget. We source a number of artists to provide a diverse catalogue of styles and sizes appropriate for your home, work or recreational space.

We believe that art is for everyone and have gone to great effort to connect artists with art lovers. We try to support emerging artists who are able to provide affordable original pieces.

We were concerned that there seems to be no “middle ground” in the world of art. You will either walk into a gallery and pay $10,000 for a piece by an established artist or you will go to a retailer where you will pay $400 for a print. We wanted to make the connection between artists and art lovers at every level… and so DOA was born.

With our gallery positioned in the picturesque surrounds of Melbourne Docklands, DOA works very hard to provide a wide range of art from very stylised and original pieces to more commercial, interior decorative canvases that can be used in a breadth of environments.

We believe that art is truly subjective but are more than happy to offer our own experience in helping you arrive at the right piece for you and your unique requirements. Finding “that” piece is a journey and the rewards can be quite thrilling, we pride ourselves on sharing our knowledge and resources with you without any pressure on making a purchase. We are more than happy to point you elsewhere or let you “hang before you buy” to take the stress out of a decision.

We offer delivery (domestic and international) and hanging services (these are charged as extras) and are happy to talk to you about lay-by and lease to buy options.

Commercial and private leases

DOA offers both short and long-term leasing options for private and commercial use. Whether you require paintings to freshen up your work space or need to dress up your home for entertaining or sale, we have a number of options and are happy to help you get the best fit for your needs.

Our artworks are original and painted by a number of artists. Sizes currently range from 1m x 0.8m to 1.8m x 1.3m. Subjects and colors are varied and include abstracts and landscapes.

Paintings can be hired for periods ranging from 1 week to 12 months. You will need to sign a simple agreement to lease.

Short-term hires: ie under 12 months, suit interior designers or amateurs wishing to display original, contemporary art in a house during a selling campaign or to add to a venue for a special event. Short term hires are subject to a deposit that will be refunded on the safe and timely return of the undamaged painting(s). Costs depend on the artwork and lease period but generally range between $300-500 plus GST.

Long-term hire: Suits offices and other workplaces. This offers an affordable and tax-effective means of furnishing the workplace or home to a high standard. Prices range from $200-600 plus GST per piece per year. Discounts apply for multiple artworks and arrangements can be made to “rotate” pieces every 6 months to keep environments “fresh”. Corporates can also commission specific pieces. These and other pieces can also be purchased through a lease to buy arrangement.

Insurance is included in the lease cost. Return delivery and professional installation , if required, is additional.

Commissioned pieces

Art is a very personal topic in appreciation of both it’s quality and it’s content.

DOA offers the ability to commission highly personalised pieces of art to capture a special person, place, moment or subject.

All you need to do is provide us with an image and direction as to style, size, colors and shading and we will get the appropriate artist to generate the piece on your behalf. We will guide you through the whole process to make sure you get a piece that works for you and give you options in relation to how the artist should interpret your direction.

 

These commissions have proved wildly popular as wedding gifts, birthday presents and house warming items.

 

See below for some past pieces that demonstrate some of the different options. Starting prices can be as little as $500.

Gift certificates

DOA offers gift certificates for people who want to give the gift of art but want to take the risk out of purchasing.

 

These gift certificates are highly original and popular gifts. There is a $200 minimum amount for gift certificates (with certificates coming in $50 increments) which will allow for the receiver to lease a medium sized landscape or contemporary for 12 months or the purchase of a small decorative contemporary piece.
